What in heavens name is going (wr)on(g), with Birmingham City Council's heating contractors?
In the local papers during the cold spell. almost on a daily basis, there were stories about older people being left in the cold, for one reason or another. Reasons which I will not accept or listen to.
The contractors are paid to provide a service, that service should not be dependant on warm weather or only having to deal with a handful of breakdowns a day, the contract is to provide a first class service to all council tenants, who have problems with their gas services.
I was pleased to read in yesterdays Sunday mercury that the newspaper had embarrassed the contractor enough that they replaced Mrs Whittall's boiler, even though they originally said they needed new parts, which is the same old statement, no matter what's wrong with the system.
Once again tomorrow at HUROS committee, we will hear that the service was splendid under dreadful weather conditions and did a first class service for tenants. They may think that, but I don't.
