Ensuring that any child is protected against possible interests of a paedophile is paramount, or at least it should be to any normal adult. Now I speak as someone who has had more CRB checks than your average Joe, even to the extent of an enhanced CRB, however, they are only bits of paper and only as accurate as the day they were printed off.
The key problem is that everyone wishing to protect children and vulnerable adults, now demand that EVERY adult has a CRB check. I first came across this when involved with my former employers Christmas Party Committee, one of the members said every "Auntie and Uncle" for the day will need to be CRB checked, as they had recently undertaken a Child Protection training session at a school. WRONG, WRONG & WRONG, it is not a case that every adult who comes in to contact with children MUST be checked, ideal, possibly, but not compulsory. The Christmas Party Committee overcame concerns, as several of us were CRB checked and we instructed all "Auntie and Uncles" that at no time should they be alone with any children, ideally one of the adults who had a CRB check should always be present. Problem solved.
Now this morning I read that Gloucester Cathedral are going down the wrong road also, all because several ladies who volunteer to do the flowers each week have taken a stand against being CRB checked, so they are being sacked by The Church Of England, how ridiculous.
