Birmingham City Council is now planning to axe children's social work posts, even after damming reports from OFSTED and others earlier this year, that staff were overstretched, constantly under pressure and there was a lack of experienced social workers in the department to handle difficult childrens cases.
The council has launched their consultation on these plans that will see savings in excess of £16 million in the coming year and around £60 million over the next four years.
Since the summer the Council has been attempting to "remodel children's social care", putting Councillor Len Clarke in charge of what was Children's Social Services, after the poor reports, along with critical case reviews in to deaths of young children, known to the City's Social Services Directorates.
