Youth unemployment, that’s those who are between 16 and 24 years old, has reached a twelve year high, here in Birmingham.
Throughout the period that Labour was in Government, there were schemes and initiatives to ensure that the young people felt wanted, that they were a valued part of society. Labour provided funding for apprenticeships, grants for work experience schemes, where most of those who went on to the schemes found permanent employment.
Now once again the youth are being put on the scrap heap, simple because “they don’t tend to vote”, “they don’t want work”, “they don’t care”, or at least that is the attitude of too many tory politicians towards youngsters, who for whatever reason can’t or just wont go to university.
To make matters even worse from the end of December this Tory /Lib-Dem Government are scrapping EMA, which has allowed those from NOT well-off households to remain in education and study until they are 18 years old.
